Soledad Pillas or Ka Sol as her family and friends fondly calls her is a staunch advocate of migrants and has dedicated her life in organizing and fighting for migrant workers rights.
Ka Sol is currently fighting for her life. On September 2 she had a massive stroke while at the Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs attending a hearing on Mary Jane Veloso, the Filipino migrant worker sentenced to die in Indonesia and on the "balikbayan box" issue.
Ka Sol was a migrant worker herself. She was a domestic worker in Hong Kong for twenty five years and became active in organizing migrant workers there.
She became a volunteer counselor/case officer of the Mission for Migrant Workers (MFMW). She was also the Chairperson of the Association of Concerned Filipinos (ACFIL), a founding member of UNIFIL-HK, Former Vice Chairperson of the Association of Concerned Migrants in Discovery Bay and Vice Chairperson of United Filipinos in Hong Kong (UNIFIL-MIGRANTE-HK), which is a founding member of Migrante International.
Last year, she decided go back to the Philippines for good to be a full time organizer for Migrante International. On December 2014 she was elected as the Secretary General of the MIGRANTE International.
Now is the time that we join her in her toughest fight. It is the fight for her life. We are raising financial support to help fund her surgery, recovery and rehabilitation. Coming from a working class family, she will not be able to afford the high medical cost. We are seeking your support.
