New Work for Solo Oboe by Lavell Blackwell!
Donation protected
I'm Nicholas Tisherman, Second and Assistant Principal Oboe with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra in Denver. Please join me in a project to commission a composer of color to create new music for solo oboe.
I am extremely lucky to have parents who have supported me and musician relatives who have inspired me every step in my career, but the spark that ignited me to pursue music as a youngster was hearing David Mullikin's recently-commissioned oboe concerto. Now, in a time during which the world is craving inspiration, let's create something new for the next generation of young musicians.
Today, it is imperative that we choose to foreground voices of those who have traditionally been less heard in composed classical music, so that everyone has access to and representation in the arts. Boston-based composer, singer, lyricist, and music director Lavell Blackwell will be helping me expand the solo oboe repertoire. I met Lavell while we were at the New England Conservatory, and with his experience with today's foremost composers in Boston and his background in musical theater and choral music, I'm super excited to work with him on this project.
I hope you enjoy my recital on July 15th via livestream, and I would be so grateful if you choose to give. Your contribution during a time when we've had to ration toilet paper means the world to me. I can't wait to premiere Lavell's new piece!
