In late July, Bethany will attempt one of the world’s most iconic and demanding open water challenges: swimming the English Channel from England to France.
Bethany attempted the swim last year and was pulled from the water only 3km (agonisingly close) from the French shoreline. With an improved feeding regime she will make it the whole way.
This is not just a long swim. The Channel is roughly 21 miles at its shortest point — but with tides, currents, cold water, and unpredictable weather, swimmers often cover much more. Water temperatures can hover around 15–18°C (59–64°F). There are no wetsuits allowed under official rules. Just a swimsuit, cap, goggles, and relentless determination.
This is months (and years) of training. Early mornings. Icy water. Endless laps. Mental grit. Physical endurance. And an unwavering commitment to reaching the French shore.
But this is not a solo journey.
Channel swimming requires a full support team — pilot boat, crew, official observer, safety personnel, feeding support, and logistics to get Bethany and her team from England to France safely. Between boat hire, pilot fees, Channel Swimming Association costs, travel, accommodation, and training expenses, this is a significant financial undertaking.
It truly takes a team to get one swimmer across.
If you’re able to contribute — whether large or small — you’ll be directly supporting:
Pilot boat and skipper fees
Official observer & swim registration costs
Safety crew and support team logistics
Travel and accommodation
Training and preparation expenses
Most of all, you’ll be helping Bethany chase a goal that represents resilience, courage, and the belief that big, audacious dreams are worth pursuing.
If you can’t donate, sharing this page means just as much. Every bit of support — financial or moral — helps carry her stroke by stroke toward France.
Thank you for being part of the team that gets Bethany across the Channel.
Let’s get her to France.
