Solitude is a Psychological Thiller / Drama that will be shot in the Outback of Australia, in Winton, QLD.
This 15 minute short film explores the dangers of co-dependency when it becomes the core of who you are as a person. It delves into how even platonic friendships can harbour complex relationship dynamics and jealousies.
For this project, the budget will be funded by our crew and we are looking to raise $3,000 out of a total $15,000 to help minimise some of the costs required in filmmaking! Any support or donations would be extremely appreciated by all of us on the Solitude crew. Donations over $30 will receive a special thanks in our credits at the end of the film!

When I decided to pursue filmmaking as a career, my goal was to combine the two things I am most passionate about in the content that I create: travel and cinema. Creating a story that completely utilises all elements of a specific landscape is something that really excites me as a storyteller, and I wanted to bring this to my graduate project. I had a really positive experience creating a short film during the Outback Filmmaking Course and want to return once again with a fully realised concept and script to be able to execute a polished and exciting story.
With this story, I aim to showcase the landscape of Outback, Australia whilst juxtaposing it against the darker, more sinister elements representative of loneliness, isolation and fear. With my experience navigating filmmaking in Winton and my understanding of the locations we have access to around the town, I welcome the challenge to direct another short in the Outback.
Throughout my life I have had a lot of experiences with different kinds of relationships, but the ones that I am always consistently finding myself drawn to are female friendships. While most of my experiences have been positive, I have had many friendships turn into co-dependencies, when at times can become debilitating. In cinema, co-dependencies are often portrayed in romantic relationships, but I would like to explore this between two friends as the dynamics and boundaries can often be a lot more complex. I want to explore taking this concept heightening the stakes to a new level and taking the audience on a thrilling yet terrifying journey where the very things that comfort you become the things that haunt you. While the story will have a dark ending, I’d like the viewer to see how friendships can also be toxic and that isn’t always unique to romantic relationships. I also want to demonstrate a dramatized version of a friendship with two people who stop listening to each other’s needs and no longer support each other for the benefit of the other person. It is a cautionary tale of what happens when human nature steers us towards using other people for our own benefit.
