Soliday - unexpected loss
Donation protected
Hi everyone – My name is Shellie Hughes. On September 4th, 2016 at 6:20 PM, my brother, David Soliday, gained his angel wings. My hopes with this page are to help support his surviving wife, Delinda Soliday, and three young children during this difficult time.
David was born on February 6th, 1988 with a heart condition that has affected him his entire life. He underwent several heart surgeries throughout his life. Around six months ago, his pacemaker was exchanged for a defibrillator/ pacemaker. Shortly after this surgery, he returned to the doctor indicating he was still in pain. He reached out to me several times asking if I had the same experience with my surgery. Several months passed by and he was still in pain. He returned to the doctor and was told that he had an infection in the pocket that was holding the defibrillator so he would need surgery yet again.
On September 2nd, 2016, he had surgery to remove the six-month old defibrillator, three extra wires that had been in place for 15 years and to drain the infection. They were going to provide him with an entirely new system, but on the right side instead of the left. After they took him down for surgery, the doctor informed his family that he had a staph infection in his blood and was septic. It would be nearly nine hours before anyone could see him.
When they attempted to remove the defibrillator, the septic infection spread extremely fast. That evening he began pouring sweat, his oxygen levels dropped, blood pressure was unstable and his body was ice cold. The doctors increased his medication in an attempt to stabilize him. That evening his health began declining quickly.
On Saturday, September 3rd, 2016 the doctors were still trying everything to stabilize him. They started him on dialysis because his kidneys were shutting down. After being on the dialysis for a few hours his kidney function started returning to normal, but his liver function did not appear to be improving.
On Sunday, September 4th, 2016 I received a call that things had taken a turn for the worse. They weren't sure how much longer he could hold on as his body too weak and tired. They were going to transport him to Emory Atlanta, but feared he would bleed out before his arrival. They decided to keep him and try everything they could to stabilize him. As the day progressed, his health continued to deteriorate. They were going to do emergency surgery to try and take pressure off of his heart, but the surgeon said it was too risky with such a bad infection.
His liver shut down along with all of the other organs. He went into cardiac arrest. Code blue went over the intercom. Nurses and doctors went running to try and save him. Nothing worked. The only thing that kept him holding on was the ventilator. He requested to not be revived if anything happened. The tough decision needed to be made. Let his body continue to fight, or let him go, peacefully.
On September 4, 2016 at 6:20 pm, David Soliday departed this world. He passed at Emory St. Joseph's Hospital from a septic infection.
David was only 28 years old. He left behind his wife, Delinda, and 3 beautiful children (6 years, 1 year and 5 weeks old). He was the sole provider for his family.
Now his family is at a loss of what to do. After Delinda receives his last paycheck, she will have nothing else to support their children. Our goal is to raise funds for the cremation, service and to help support Delinda with any expenses during this confusing and difficult time. Any assistance will mean the world to his entire family. David was such a gentleman and would give the shirt off of his back to help someone in need. If you are not able to provide a donation, then please keep our family in your prayers.
I have included information regarding his service below. Please, in lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to support Delinda and their children in David’s honor. Donations including Diapers (size 4 & newborn), wipes for sensitive skin and Similac Alimentum Ready-to-Feed Formula are also extremely appreciated at this time.
