Solidarity with Karine whose Apartment was Deemed Unliveable

Karine Ruest used to live with her 70 year old roomate on 21e avenue in Saint-Michel, Montreal. Under her landlord's management, her home became squalid. Leaking sewage has caused massive moulding, mixing with noxious fumes, creating severe health hazards and massive stress for these tenants. The floor has collapsed, been removed, and the sewage is now open in the middle of Karine's living room.

Karine believes a previous tenants' death may be related to the toxins inside the apartment. The city finally got involved to force repairs, condemning the apartment. Karine is now without a home, living in a hotel room without most of her possessions which have been ruined.

Support the fight of the Montreal Autonomous Tenants' Union (SLAM) to help Karine get her due.

Karine Ruest vivait avec son colocataire de 70 ans aux 6957, 21 ième avenue à Montréal. Un refoulement d'eaux d'égout a créé une odeur noséabonde en plus d'engendrer de graves problèmes de moisissure dans l'appartement. Cette situation a amené des problèmes de santé et un grand stresse aux locataires.

La situation est devenue si horrible que le plancher c'est effondrer, a été enlevé, et les égoux se sont ouvert au millieu du salon. La ville à finalement comdamner le logement et a exigé des travaux de réparation. Cependant, Karine vie dans une chambre d'hotel depuis le début septembre, a perdu la majorité de ses biens et à perdu son emploi précédent. Elle travail maintenant dans une quincaillerie pour un maigre salaire et à besoin de support, notamment pour payer ses frais d'hotel (le propriétaire ne payant pas le logement avant d'etre reconnue coupable en court, elle a donc besoin de soutien financier pour son accomodation temporaire et pour se meubler quand elle aura un nouveau chez elle).

Soyez généreux·ses, aider le Syndicat des locataires autonomes de Montréal (SLAM) dans ce combat et dans le combat de toustes les locataires contre leurs propriétaires!
