Solidarity Half-Marathon with Earthquake Victims in Myanmar

Donation protected
We are a collection of Myanmar people and friends of Myanmar based in London are organizing a half-marathon to raise funds for the people of Myanmar undergoing untold hardships as a result of the recent earthquake and four years of war.

On 28th May a catastrophic 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, collapsing vast numbers of homes, religious buildings, vital infrastructure across the central areas of the country. The full extent of the damage is not yet fully known, but in excess of 3,000 have already been declared dead, and thousands more still missing.

The earthquake comes four years on from an intractable armed conflict across the country, which has resulted in the displacement of over 3.5 million people, the incapacitation of services, and the impoverishment of a large percentage of the population. Myanmar people have faced wave upon wave of tragedy.

Urgent and immediate aid is needed to support medical supplies, temporary shelters, food, clean water and other essential supplies. Funds will go directly to earthquake victims through channels of communities and activists working tirelessly on the ground to deliver lifesaving support. No funds will pass the hands of the military, and everyone working across networks is working voluntarily - so all funds will go to those in need.

The funds will be go to a long-standing friend and colleague who is a volunteer member of Generation Z Movement Support Team, which is providing direct emergency response to conflict and earthquake effected communities. It will be transferred through her Thai bank account and then directly transferred to volunteers on the ground. The funds will be used for essential supplies for earthquake victims in Myanmar, mainly Sagaing and Mandalay. This will include: direct assistance to affected families, particularly those with diverse and immediate needs, medical support for injured individuals, their family members, including the purchase of essential medicines, the provision of medicines for mobile and stationary voluntary health care teams, food assistance including rice and drinking water, sanitation support such as the provision of temporary toilets, temporary shelter materials such as tarpaulins, ropes and poles, household-level solar electricity systems, transportation and communication supplies.

Please give as much as you can - no amount is to small.

With love, kindness and respect
