hello! my name is ben whittington, i'm 18, a scotland based film student.
i'm the director of SOLEIL NOIRCI, a short film experimental horror that i am planning to film in late july to early august. and with your generosity, i could finally be able to talk about something interesting i did this year at family new years.
as the only person currently on the project and the one to oversee the main production roles further down the line, i will be directly receiving and transferring every penny raised from this fundraiser into making the best short film possible.
but before i ask for your support, allow me to explain a bit more about my project.
PROJECT DETAILS
SOLEIL NOIRCI is a grungy, experimental cosmic horror that uses the imperfections of analogue and camcorders to allow audiences a refreshing new lens to view media, straying away from the £2000+ lenses most films are shot on today (for some reason).
inspired by The Mandela Catalogue and Local58's format, it aims to blend the two ideas while taking further inspiration from different religions and minimalistic culture.
taking place in the late 1990s, SOLEIL NOIRCI follows a mother waiting on her son returning home from school, when an astronomical phenomenon appears to broadcast all over the news.
the film aims to capture a sense of hopelessness and replaces the fear factor found in standard horrors for an orchestrated, dreadful sensation. there is nothing that you can do, and nothing that she can do to avoid the events which unfold in the film. a feeling like someone's in your home with you and you have absolutely no defence and no time to get away. the desaturation of both power and leverage.
it's a love letter to both Skinamarink and the Blair Witch Project in particular, knowing that no matter how long you watch for, their fates are sealed in stone. i want SOLEIL NOIRCI to follow in their exact footsteps.
CROWDFUNDING
for this project to happen and be fully realised, crowdfunding is key. being a working student and having to make most films on my own provides incredible challenge. the last thing I want to do is to have to scrap this film, so I need help.
here's what your crowdfunding can do for my short film:
- EQUIPMENT / any cameras, lighting, sound or rental costs to get each shot looking correct.
- PROPS / any furniture, costumes that are needed to appropriately set dress.
- ACTORS / any actor fees, transport costs, food costs to properly accommodate the actors working long hours.
- ARTISTS / any artist commission fees for concept art, costume designs, etc. (artists have to eat too!)
- LOCATION / any rent costs to cover getting a location for filming.
- FESTIVAL SUBMISSION FEES / any costs that film festivals charge to get the work out there once completed!
without crowdfunding, there is only so much that ambition can drive this project to what it needs to be. your input is so important, so please consider helping me out.
if you cannot donate, it would be incredibly appreciated if you could share this GoFundMe or follow our Instagram page. (@soleilnoirci)
whether it's donations, sharing our page or simply word of mouth, every bit of support helps more than you could ever know.
CHARITY OF CHOICE
lastly, to ensure that every penny you donate gets spent on good and helping people, the top donator for this GoFundMe will be allowed to choose a charity of choice to send the excess money not used for production.
i will also add £100 to their charity of choice from my own pocket. so donate big! (please)
your support means the world. thank you so much for reading and please support SOLEIL NOIRCI!
many thanks,
ben whittington :)
