Our mission is to serve as a steward for community-controlled land; to be a catalyst for values driven, community-serving development; to build awareness and community leadership in issues of housing, transportation and recreation; and to create programs and initiatives that encourage community building, entrepreneurship and economic opportunity.
Our first goal is to build out the Sole Folks Lab which is now a renovated trailer that sits adjacent to our courtyard. This space will serves as our incubator for students ages 14-25 years old. The only prerequisite is that required to be a part of the Sole Folks Incubator 10 week program is to have a passion for learning and developing yours skills as an Artist/Designer. We want to provide the aspiring designers with all the tools they need including fabric, materials, sewing machines, computer software and much more. We understand that a successful retail incubator will give birth to innovations and entrepreneurial efforts amongst the Black community.
Our next goal is to sustain our current organic food giveaway with Let's Be Whole. Every Wednesday, we set up tents in front of the Sole Folks store and distribute organic produce and groceries for the Leimert Park community. We enjoy this part of our philanthropy, but there are costs attached to transporting the boxes of donated food. We want to continue this program and include online cooking classes for the participants.
