Solar Power System, Paalam School

                                         Urgent Need!!!
Solar Power system for Paalam school - Sri Lanka

Over the past two years, electricity costs in Sri Lanka have almost doubled. This increased cost upon the Paalam School has been affecting our funds leaving us with less money to spend on the educational needs of the children.

Hence we decided to investigate installing a Solar Power System into our school so we could save much needed educational funds for our children and also so we could help our Sri Lankan environment. Unlike conventional power, solar produces no harmful emissions that hurt the environment. It's a clean, renewable process that uses the most natural of all resources: THE SUN.
"In Sri Lanka we have endless sunshine".

The Paalam International School was opened in September 2003 with the purpose of providing children from underprivileged families from the Wattala district with an opportunity to study.

Many children in this area do not attend school. They are instead sent out to work so as to help their families to meet the needs of day to day living. Many of the children’s parents are in the very low income earning bracket. Some children’s parents are drug addicts or alcoholics so spend all their income on their habits leaving the families with little finance to live off.  In the school we are not only looking at the children’s educational needs but we are also overseeing many children with food assistance, medical care, provision of uniforms and shoes, transport, and social assistance.  The Paalam Project has also built new housing for some of the children’s families who were previously living in shacks made from cardboard boxes, plastic and anything that they could find to provide shelter.

The school has a total of 250 children ranging from the ages of 5 – 17years. Twenty five of these children are fully sponsored into the school.  We currently have 20 full time teachers all of whom were previously unemployed.

The cost of installing the Solar Power System is very high but the long term benefits for the school, students and the environment are the reason we have decided to install this system into the Paalam School. Your kind donation will help to start this process and our goal is that by 2021 we would be able to allocate funds that we are spending on electricity directly back into our students education.

But we need your help to raise the initial funds to install the Solar Power System.

If you or your organisation would be willing to assist us by helping to DONATE TOWARDS THE FUNDING of the Solar Power System, we would grately value your contributions towards making this a reality for our school.

Your investment would help us to continue to invest our school funds into the lives of our students, rather than into the cost of electricity bills.  This way we can continue to provide the students with an opportunity to change their future and the future of their families.

We hope to start this project in January 2018.

We would greatly value all contributions towards the "Paalam School Solar Power Project".
