Solar Lights for Learning by Sophia Maryam & Imran

Dear Everyone

How easy is it  for us to simply flick  on a switch and  have light!

Sadly, this is not the case for many children in rural areas in Kenya. They do not have any electricity and most use candles to light up their homes. These homes are very basic and are often made out of mud walls and straw roofs.

The children struggle with learning and doing their homework at home.  Sadly, the only way to read is by candle light which is such a big risk as it can cause fires.

Lighting candles all the time also creates a lot of smoke, causing headaches, eye strain and dizziness. How can children do well and learn like this?

These children have big dreams just like we do, and are so eager to learn and do well. Please can you help their dreams come true? If 100 people donate just £10 each, we can easily hit our target!

Thank you for watching our video and reading this.

Lots of love,

Sophia Maryam Hashim and Imran Hashim

Here's our pledge!

This is how they learn right now, by the dim light the candle gives out.

These are the solar panels that will be used on the houses to generate electricity. Each house will have one solar panel, each panel  costs £200 to buy and install.

Below you can see how the solar panels will be fitted to the roof of the houses.  Just one panel will allow the house   to be lit with electricity!!

The final outcome! Children will be able to read and study after school without without the risk of fire or strain on their eyes!
