Solar fruit drying in Malawi

Donation protected
I have spent the past 6 months in Malawi developing a simple solar fruit drier that enables impoverished communities to preserve seasonal fruits such as mangoes, pineapples and tomatoes.

Malawi is one of the world's least developed countries, constantly teetering on the brink of famine. There is an urgent need to improve nutrition within the rural communities. Fruits such as mangoes and pineapples ripen in gluts and much of it rots in piles by the side of the road.

The drier I've developed works well and there is a growing demand for it amongst the rural poor in the Mulanje district. It is simple to built, easy to use and only requires locally sourced products.

Your donations will go towards my next six months of rolling out this project across a wider area, to establish a sustainable training scheme for the future and to develop a market for dried fruit in order to provide communities with some income.
