We are seeking seed funding to install a solar system on the roof of a school in Waterloo, Sierra Leone, overseen by the EKI Foundation. The objective is to build community resilience to climate change by addressing energy security. The project will also serve as a catalyst for micro-enterprises and promote improved digital literacy. Measurable outcomes will align with SDGs 4 (Quality Education), 7 (Clean Energy), and 8 (Decent Work).
For Heakam International School, reliable solar power is more than electricity — it is the foundation for opportunity. With stable, low-cost energy, the school can become a hub for learning, skills development, and livelihoods for vulnerable children, orphans, and street girls.
Solar electricity will enable digital literacy and vocational training, including computer skills, AI tools, tailoring, catering, hospitality, and small-business development — practical pathways into employment and self-reliance. Refrigeration and safe food storage will support training in food-based enterprises, reduce waste, and improve nutrition.
Beyond the school, solar power unlocks community-level impact: phone-charging stations, small kitchens and bakeries, computer hubs, and solar-powered water pumping that delivers clean drinking water to over 100 households. These are immediate, income-generating uses of energy that strengthen resilience and dignity.
This project is designed as a catalyst. By securing clean energy at the school, we create a platform for multiple micro-enterprises, improved health and safety, and long-term community development — all driven locally, with modest seed capital and measurable outcomes.
Our ultimate target is AUD 37,700. Your support helps turn sunlight into education, livelihoods, and lasting impact.
