Solace and Safety for Haven and Gus

My dear friend Haven Kimmel—a beloved novelist and memoirist—is facing a calamitous family upheaval. Her marriage of nearly fifteen years ended overnight, blindsiding her and her children. Haven and the boy still at home, 13-year-old son, Gus, have spent every day sleepless from financial insecurity. Haven has set aside the book she has been working on and taken on as much work as she can find. 

Among her most pressing needs: money for groceries, school lunches, and emergency dental care for both herself and Gus. Haven and her son also need to move out of the family's longtime home and find somewhere safe to live. 

All of this is crushingly expensive, as I'm sure you know from your own lives. Haven is far, far more comfortable giving than she is receiving, so I am writing this plea on her behalf. If you've met her even for a moment, you know that she's an extraordinarily kind and loyal person. I hope you can help her, because she has—in so many ways, for so many years—helped so many of us.
