Emotional Relief Support for Camp Fire Victims

Tax deductible
On November 8, 2018, the Camp Fire tore through Butte County and became the most destructive fire in California history with  85 lives lost, 153,336 acres burned and 13,972 residences and 528 commercial buildings destroyed.

Thousands of people are displaced, homes, livelihoods, and loved ones have been lost, and schools have been closed.

Local, state, and federal organizations have responded to the emergency with an outpouring of supplies, food, and shelters to help victims get their basic needs met.

However, as the crisis begins to settle and the weight of grief and loss has begun to set in, the need for healing service coordination is evident. Sol Sanctuary can provide the mental and emotional support needed by this grieving community.

Sol Sanctuary is an organization with over 16 years of experience specializing in counseling, coaching, grief work, and emotional support following crisis and trauma.  As soon as news of the Camp Fire spread, it ignited our team to assess and respond.

Not only do our services align with the needs of the community, but the losses are close to home, as all three of its founding members spent their childhood in Paradise.

Sol needs your help to provide ongoing, long-term emotional support to Paradise residents. Our goals are to staff a resource table in the Disaster Relief Center (in the old Sears building in Chico) and launch Emotional Relief Centers for Camp Fire victims. These centers are our emotional emergency response solution, and will be mobile tents set up in high traffic, easy to access areas like disaster recovery centers or shelters to offer space and resources to meet the emotional needs of those affected by the Camp Fire.

Emotional Relief Centers will provide support by offering a peaceful space for people to sit, gather, feel safety, respite, and privacy, and share and process their stories. Healing resources will also be available for use including but not limited to essential oils, music, writing and art materials, guided breath and movement, and community council.

Furthermore, the centers will act as an emotional health information hub and community resource center to connect people to other services or offerings in the area. Finally, it can be used as a space for other healers to offer free classes, sessions, or support for participants.

The Emotional Relief Centers will provide an opportunity for people to continue to support the Camp Fire victims by volunteering their time, money, resources, and gifts to help bring hope and healing back to their community.
