School of Health Fall Ball 2024: Supporting Refugee Youth

This fall, the School of Health invites you to join us for a night of celebration and meaningful purpose at our Masquerade Ball! While we come together to create lasting memories, we also unite in support of a critical cause – the education of Afghan refugee youth, and resettlement of families, through the work of the Fresh Start Refugee Assistance Center.

About Our Cause: Fresh Start is part of a powerful coalition that includes NOVA Raft, Generation Resilient, and GMU ARMP. Together, we are working to support Afghan refugee youth who have been displaced by war, offering them not only a fresh start but the resources needed for a proper education. Just minutes from Georgetown’s campus, a large population of refugees with tremendous needs are finding support through the dedicated efforts of this coalition of organizations.

Where Your Donations Go: All proceeds from the School of Health Fall Ball will be directly allocated to FreshStart's initiatives, which focus on resettlement support to help refugee families rebuild their lives in safety and access to educational tools and resources.

Our Continuing Partnership: Additionally, our SOH students are committed to making an impact throughout this school year by volunteering their time and expertise in a series of health-focused programs, including:

1. CPR/BLS Training Workshops: Teaching critical life-saving skills to refugee youth and their families

2. Women's Health Education Workshops: Empowering Afghan teen girls with knowledge about their health and well-being

3. Hygiene/Health Clinics: Providing access to essential health and hygiene education

4. Mental Health Therapy Events: Offering support and resources to youth who have experienced trauma
