SOFT ANIMALS is an indie horror feature set to begin production this year. It marks the feature directorial debut of Michael Vidler, something that has been a long time coming. With most of the budget already secured, we’re looking to raise the final $20,000 to bring this film to life.

STORY

Inside a massive, aging building, Kora spends her days welding steel and smoking cigarettes, somewhat detached from the world. When her father dies after a brutal fall, Kora begins to lose her grip on reality. The past starts bleeding into the present. Violent visions intrude on her waking life. What begins as grief slowly transforms into a surreal descent into madness, forcing Kora to confront the truth about her father and their fractured past.

STYLE

Soft Animals will not be a typical horror film. Don’t worry, it will still be scary as hell, but the film will take a minimalist approach. Silence will often replace dialogue. The film will pull viewers in slowly, building tension through long unbroken takes and a deliberate pace, occasionally punctuated by moments of shocking violence.

Visually, the film will embrace a raw aesthetic. We want the world to feel harsh and gritty, nothing polished or perfect. Broken concrete walls, dripping pipes, rusted steel, and worn industrial spaces will fill every frame.

SUPPORT

Our entire team is incredibly excited to bring this film to life. Production begins this year, and we cannot wait to get started. We have already secured close to 90 percent of our budget, which means we are very close to turning this dream into a reality.
