Sofi’s Smile

My sister, sofi, who many of you know, is my precious big sister and best friend. Something you might not know is that she has not had front teeth since she was six years old. In middle and high school I remember many late nights sitting, watching her make teeth out of nail acrylic. She would then superglue them into the roof of her mouth so she didn’t have to face her peers without front teeth. This went on for years and Sofi couldn’t wait until she turned 16. Not for a new car... far from it. She needed front teeth, and dentists told her she had to wait until her mouth was fully developed, at 16. Her 16th birthday year came and went. So did her 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th. By this time She had lost hope of ever getting permanent teeth. Then, 8 years ago she met a kind dentist that made her a temporary retainer with two fake teeth on it, but it was never intended to be a permanent solution. What was suppose to be a few months turned into years of wear and tear from the retainer that has now caused compounded dental issues. My heart breaks at the thought of the insecurities and damage this has caused my sister emotionally and physically. She has sacrificed so much to serve so many. My prayer is that we can come together to bear this burden for her.
