Sofie & Sophia run half a marathon (21km) for Almaawiya at the Greifenseelauf in Zurich on Saturday, September 22, 2018
Almaawiya is a school in Lamu on the northeast Coast of Kenya, founded by Kids in Motion, a Swiss charity founded by Karin Howell.
Lamu is known to some as an idyllic holiday destination but instability in Somalia - the northern neighbor - which has resulted in a flow of refugees and a dramatic reduction in international tourism.
The combination has brought dramatic increase in unempolyment and poverty levels. As a result, unempolyed youths fall into drug usage and become susceptible to extremist ideology and recruitment.
Kids in Motion set up their first Kindergarden in 2014. Almaawiya meanwhile, hosts almost 500 children from Kindergarden to Secondary school (10th grade). Almaawiya provides all the children with food, medical care and social support.
Although compulsory education is required in Kenya and a visit to public school only costs 20 Euros per year, the boys and girls stay away, as the parents simply cannot afford the school fees.
Please join us to support the Almaawiya and Kids in Motion to improve the education in Lamu by building a new school.
Our goal is to send more children to school, so they can achieve their dreams to become pilots, doctors, dancer, teachers or lawyers!
Thank you for your donation and support.
