Hi, my name is Marsha, and I’m raising funds to support my sister, Sofia Hemmings, as she represents Australia in her Senior International debut in rhythmic gymnastics.
For over 10 years, I have watched Sofia pour her heart and soul into this sport. Early mornings, late nights, setbacks, sacrifices and she has faced them all with determination and resilience. Her passion, discipline and relentless work ethic have shaped her into the athlete she is today.
Last weekend, Sofia debuted her senior routines at a national selection competition. After an outstanding performance, she was officially selected to represent Australia at multiple major international events over the coming months:
- Aphrodite Cup – Greece
- Sofia Cup – Bulgaria
- Bulgaria World Cup
- Azerbaijan World Cup
- Intercontinental selection event for World Championships qualification
Competing at this level is an incredible honour, but it also comes with significant financial responsibility. Unfortunately, Australian rhythmic gymnasts receive little to no government funding at this stage. This means athletes and their families must cover all expenses, including:
- International flights and internal travel
- Accommodation and meals
- Competition entry fees
- Coach and judge travel costs
- Training camps and preparation expenses
An overseas tour of this scale can cost tens of thousands of dollars, but it is essential for gaining the international experience needed to compete at World Championships level and build toward the ultimate goal of an Olympic Games.
If you are able to contribute, no matter how small, it would mean the world to our family and help ease the financial pressure of this incredible journey.
We are beyond proud of everything she has achieved so far, and we are so excited to support her as she steps onto the world stage wearing the green and gold.
Thank you for being part of her journey!
