Sofia Wants to Be American

As the visionary of "Sofia Wants to Be American," Alessia Bonacci strives to create a world where everyone can be their most confident, self-expressed and happy self. As an actress, dancer, singer she featured in musicals across the world including London’s West End and Broadway, and performed in many TV shows with artists like Kanye West, Kylie Minogue and more. Through passion and intrigue, her love for the arts fuels her desire to bring her upcoming comedy TV series, “Sofia Wants to be American” to life.

A word from the creator, Alessia Bonacci:

After a pause with my passion project for various reasons, I am overly excited to share with all of you that we are finally moving forward with "Sofia wants to be American, and it's becoming a dream come true.

After working on a last revision of the script, we are now ready to go!

We are going to be filming at the end of August, beginning of September 2025 in LA. Yesssss!!!!

We already have all the locations secured, a great production team and a fantastic director, Shaun Piccinino who directed many films on Netflix, HBO, Lionsgate and Warner Brothers. We are honored to have him as our director!

We just need some help to meet our budget.

Who is Sofia and why does she want to be American? Well, to Alessia, this question can be answered through her own experiences immigrating from Foligno, Umbria in the heart of Italy. Just as Alessia so fearlessly jumped into life here in sunny Southern California, Sofia confidently, and ever so humorously, hopes to discover the same American Dream that was her father's dream before he passed away.

Alessia believes that with a smile anything is possible, so that's why she created the character of Sofia, a woman who always has a smile on her face and who gets excited by life, something that a lot of people in this world forget how to do.

Through the eyes of Sofia the audience who has become disillusioned about America, will re discover and appreciate the beauty of their country and specifically of LA.

With this show and through the eyes of Sofia we want to make Americans fall in love with their country. Sofia comes to America to fulfill her father's wish and dream! 

She finds the beauty and humor within all of its imperfections. 

This campaign is very important to us as we want to bring the character of Sofia alive and tell a story that will empower you, make you think, laugh, and remind you that despite how divided we are, we can always reunite through humor and gratitude!

Sofia Wants to Be American cost breakdown:

On top of my personal contribution, our fundraising goal of $20.000 covers the remainder of the 30 minutes pilot shooting, which is set to film at the end of August /beginning of September 2025.
