The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at the University of Kentucky is being threatened by the new legislative changes involving university funding. All identity based organizations are no longer allowed to receive any support from the college, including funding and faculty support. Our chapter works vigorously throughout the school year to host STEM awareness events for children in the Lexington area, do community service in the Latino community, and attend the National Convention to connect with other SHPE chapters and resources. These changes have resulted in all of our accounts being frozen including third-party funds awarded before the bill was passed. This has crippled our organization and we are humbly asking for support to continue to do the work we’ve been doing for years.
