We have been lucky to have served this community of Old Town and the local region for the past six years. Thank you.
We made almost everything in house, bread, smoked meats, turkey and ham for our signature sandwiches. All our cakes and pastries are also made in house. Our cakes have become a fixture in Old Town. We have been lucky to see families grow and kids grow up.
2018 was a difficult year to say the least. We lost some amazing staff that went on to new opportunities. We lost our catering manager who went back to her old job. We lost our beloved butcher. It has taken us almost a year to rebuild our staff. In some cases even better than it was before. Strong service minded employees. Truly hard working people like Mo or market manager. Omar who works the line and makes everyone lunch each day.
December and January with the government shutdown and record breaking temperatures were like a final one two punch. This is a unforgiving business at times and we have made mistakes.
Why Gofundme ? Because it works. Becuase it is fast for immediate needs like payroll. It is very difficult for small businesses, especially restaurants to obtain traditional loans from banks. But we are also working on that front. Crowdfunding has helped hundreds of mom and pops stay open.
We are asking for help and raising funds to help us continue to provide for our staff and other immediate expenses. We have a number of needed changes and updates in the pipe line. We have listened to all your suggestions and valuable input.
Some new items to come... if we can.. Curb Side Pick up, limited area wine and food deliveries, kid friendly menus, updated catering options, more wine dinner and classes. Pre _ Fix Menu, More Small Bites, New Sandwiches. Lower prices on some items. New Sandwiches, Saturday Brunch, More healty options.
We were just turning a corner with a new catering/parties manager Matt who spent over 11 years at Mt. Vernon. We have a new GM, Susan who was the food and beverage director at the Hilton at Mark Center. Our Wine Director and Manager spent 14 years at Charlie Palmer Steak in D.C. Our kitchen staff who make the amazing gumbo and pound cake are still all here.
Please consider making a donation. All money will be returned minus their fee if this does not work. We promise to use each cent with care. And every cent counts no matter how much or little you can contribute to our Society Fair Family. Without help our doors will close at the end of service on FEB 8. !!! This is a bit of a hail Mary, but nothing more American as that last pitch. But we know we can do this.
