We are asking for your help improving rehabilitation for our eagle and raptor patients at St. Francis Wildlife Association.
We recently cared for a beautiful Bald Eagle recovering from injury. Following five weeks of intensive indoor care for a serious tissue wound in the right wing, the eagle was moved to an outdoor enclosure, once the wound healed, to build flight strength. During a strengthening flight, however, she experienced a secondary injury due to an unforeseen complication with our older facility’s structure.
This incident was a profound lesson: even well-meaning, older facilities are not always equipped for the power and speed of a recovering raptor. We would never knowingly compromise an animal's healing, and this experience taught us that our current structures need to be replaced at the highest standard for raptor care.
Thanks to the swift action of our staff and supporter generosity, the eagle made a full recovery, and her release was a happy and powerful reminder of why we do this work. But the experience solidified our need to invest in the future of raptor rehabilitation.
We are seeking donations for a new, state-of-the-art Bald Eagle flight enclosure. This new enclosure will be built to the latest professional standards, providing the optimal environment for successful flight rehabilitation. Due to its significant size, the enclosure can be used for the rehabilitation of other large raptors and even mammals, when not in use by a bald eagle (its dimensions are suitable for ospreys, pelicans, and turkey vultures!).
We appreciate your support for this immediate and important need.
With thanks,
