So I Do Foundation in memory of Mark Allen Harris
Donation protected
I have wanted to donate to someone or something for a while now in Mark's name, but not really knowing what would be the best use of the money, what would have the greatest impact, and what would truly carry on Mark's love of music, talent, and guitars.
I have decided to create a 501c3 called the "So I Do Foundation." It is named after my favorite song from his band in New York, Vegas Taylor. The lyrics are particularly meaningful now, as I was so glad to have him in my life for as long as I did.
"And you want to stay, so I do.
And it goes your way, so I do.
And you can't explain, so I do.
I never want to be too far
from what you do or who you are.
So glad to have you."
(If you want to hear the song, you can find it on YouTube here at the 7:55 mark: Vegas Taylor So I Do)
This foundation is my way of ensuring his kindness lives on, and it is crucial to my memories of him being happiest when I saw him creating and playing music. It didn't matter if he was alone working on a song, with friends, or in a band, he just loved every part of it.
I am hoping to raise $5000 for a sustainable scholarship that buys guitars every year for 2-4 children or teens in need. If we raise more, we can buy more guitars. And I'm thinking about kicking in a U2 CD with each guitar for extra good measure =). I will match all donations to double each pledge for a total of $10,000.
I am not sure how the recipients will be chosen yet, as I'm just getting started on the idea and the paperwork. If you have any ideas, I'm open to assistance.
No contribution is too small. And please share this link with anyone who knew Mark and wants to make a difference in his name.
Email me if you donate so I can keep you updated on the progress of the charity, and send you a donation receipt.
XOXO,
Kristin (and Mark)
