If you know Johnny, then you know, and if you don’t, then allow me to explain. He is the type of guy that would drop anything to help someone. He would give the shirt off his back, and if it was a child in need, he would go without, no question, to make sure that kid doesn’t suffer or feel any less than the other kids. From feeding them to buying them shoes or toys, there is no limit for him. He is old school, as in he still pulls over to help people broken down and will gladly give someone a tool or a ride if needed. You also know that being a parent to his son has been his life. With that being said, he has always been able to bounce back when he would get sick and made sure they survived, even if it meant working in the hot sun with feeding tubes, drains, and PICC lines in. This time, he has reached a hill that he unfortunately can’t get over due to his sickness.
In August of 2020, what felt like a simple pain and just acid reflux quickly turned into a nightmare as he walked into Union Hospital in Elkton, Maryland. The next few months would be nothing short of crazy. He was rushed to the University of Maryland when his situation turned for the worse. His gallbladder had gone bad and was sending infection into his pancreas, eventually causing an extreme case of pancreatitis. The infected gallbladder had been going on for too long, so he went septic. Being in a coma for quite some time and being on ECMO along with a trachea in his throat, his family was told that this was the end of the road. There was nothing else they could do, but they didn’t know who he was and the fighter he was. Miraculously, he somehow made it through. While learning how to walk, talk, and use basic functions again, he overcame all of that. Every day, he complained to get home to his son. He got home in a short time and later decided it was the best choice to sell his home to use the equity to keep them afloat, just in case he wasn’t able to work. He would work every chance he could, but for the next five years, it would be quite a struggle as he’s been in and out of the hospital for several lengthy stays and many surgeries later. Unfortunately, he has gotten sick again, and they thought they had it fixed around this time last year. As they struggled to get through it all last year, he made it through and began trying to rebuild life again. Only the problem wasn’t fixed, and there is still a leak somewhere inside of his body that keeps causing infection and E. coli. Recently, he went back in the hospital and had to have a drain placed in his side and a line in his chest to give himself antibiotics. They have discovered he has a leak somewhere in his body and are working hard to find it. He is a fighter, but this time he cannot make it through without some help. He is reaching out to the community and everyone, hoping that he can get help to get through this hardship. They are not sure exactly how much longer he will be down and how long it will take for them to find the leak.
So we are putting this GoFundMe together, hoping that everyone can come together to get him through this and help him and his son’s life not be turned completely upside down by losing their home and everything they know. Thank you for anything you can help with, even if it’s just sharing it so it reaches other people. And if you know Johnny, then you know he would do anything to help you.
