Snow's Journey to Health: Your Help Counts
Donation protected
VHAS is seeking financial help for Snow to have immediate surgery.
Snow came into the Hazlehurst Animal Shelter in mid-April 2025 after months outside on a chain in the dirt and without shelter. She was once a beloved dog, but sadly her owner passed away and his family moved her outside before eventually surrendering her to the shelter.
Snow, at approximately 6-7 years old, came into the shelter covered in dirt with an oozing neck wound and a nasty ear and skin infection. She found her way into a medical foster home and quickly began care. It's been determined she was previously spayed (thanks to her amazing original owner) and had a TECA (total ear canal ablation) after likely chronic ear infections and allergies.
Her initial vet visit and treatment plan included meds, baths, and drops for ear and skin infection treatment, with an additional antibiotic for the oozing neck wound thought to be from a foreign body that may eventually require surgery to remove but was not life-threatening. Snow had improved but never fully healed. Her diet was changed, and she continued on meds and ear drops for her other ear, still cleaning her neck drainage daily for these past 6 weeks.
Thursday night, June 5th, Snow's foster momma came home to see massive swelling and blood coming from the neck wound, and we quickly made her an appointment. While steadily dripping blood and swollen face and neck, Snow was brought to the vet Friday, and after a phone call with a specialist, it is believed her neck oozing and now swelling between the TECA ear and neck is related to the previous TECA surgery and being outdoors for a prolonged period, with an outside chance of a foreign body being present in her neck. We are seeking support for immediate sedated skull x-rays and surgical treatment to get Snow back to a healthy place and eventually into her permanent home. Please consider a donation to Snow’s care.
