On 7th June, Louise and Meg are taking on the Snowdon six; summiting snowdon 3 times in one day, via all six official routes. The route is 25 miles with 9000ft of elevation gain and we plan to set off before sunrise and hopefully finish before sunset, in time for a celebratory pint.
We're raising money for Penguins Against Cancer (PAC), specifically to help fund the annual Ruth Prosser Women’s Cancer Research Award.
In addition to grants for charities that support those living with cancer, PAC directly funds multiple research grants. There are currently grants available in the fields of paediatric brain tumours, urological cancer, women's cancer (with a focus on breast, ovarian and cervical), and pancreatic cancer. We're raising money to ensure these vital funds can continue to be distributed to individuals working towards beating cancer.
Importantly, PAC are a charity run entirely by volunteers meaning 100% of your donations go where they're needed most.
A message from Louise:
"A few years ago I met a very brave woman who was diagnosed with a metastatic recurrence of previously treated breast Cancer - when she was early in her third trimester of pregnancy. Unfortunately because the cancer had spread, she had side effects which posed an immediate risk to the life of her and her baby. Although her diagnosis was terminal, treatment may have given her more time. However, she made the incredibly difficult decision to delay treatment to give more time for her unborn baby to reach a safer gestation before delivery and starting her own treatment.
As a new mum myself, decisions like this are just unbearable to consider, and are a stark reminder that Cancer also affects young, healthy people starting their families. Grants such as the Ruth Prosser award are vital in funding research that aims to eliminate these cancers and give families the time together they deserve."
