Snowdon: Fundraiser for Conor to receive knee surgery

Donation protected
Back in July Conor, at just 15 years old, suffered his 3rd knee dislocation in under 2 and 1/2 years.

The Specialist at Alder Hey has confirmed he needs surgery (a left knee MPFL reconstruction and tibial tubercle distalisation).

He cannot be added to the waiting list on the NHS until he is 16 years old (January 2025) and the waiting list is currently 12 months +.

He would then have 8-12 months before he could return to football (depending on his progress with physiotherapy). This would see him unable to participate for 2 and 1/2 years from when the last dislocation occured.

The mental and physical impact this would have on a young man like Conor would be immeasurable, particularly across his GCSE year.

Wigan Athletic FC have been brilliant throughout, supporting him physically and mentally during a difficult period. Unfortunately, as a part time Youth Development Stage player he is not covered in the same way as the full time players, but Wigan have helped us explore all possible options and have pledged to provide all his physiotherapy now and rehabilitation post surgery, for which we are very grateful.

We made enquiries around the cost to have the surgery done privately (as this would speed up the process dramatically, meaning weeks instead of months before surgery), and have been quoted £9000+

While we were looking at our options,
one of our lovely Wigan football Mums approached and asked if she could organise a sponsored walk up Snowdon to help with the costs of going private.

If you could take a minute to read her message below, and if you are able to help either by completing the walk or sponsoring even a small amount we would be eternally grateful.

Snowdon Fundraiser Sunday 22nd September 2024 ⛰️☀️

Dear All,

Today, I’m writing to you to share a cause that is incredibly close to all our hearts and to ask for your help in making a difference to the life of one of our own.

Many of you will already know Conor, an amazing young man of incredible talent, whose humour and passion for football has always inspired us. He is literally loved by all!!!

Conor’s potential is immense, but unfortunately a severe knee injury has put his dreams on hold. The operation he needs is critical to getting him back to doing what he loves most. Without it, the future he deserves could be out of reach.

This is where we, as a footballing family, can come together to help. We’ve organized a climb up Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, to raise the necessary funds for Conor’s knee operation. It’s a challenge that mirrors the one Conor is facing, but one that we can conquer with determination and unity.

Conor’s injury isn’t just a physical setback; it’s a blow to the dreams of a young man who has given his all to his sport and his club. Now, he needs our help to get him back to where he belongs—on that field!

We are asking for your support in the form of sponsorship for the climb. Every pound raised brings us one step closer to getting Conor the treatment he needs.
Please, dig deep, spread the word, and encourage others to sponsor this climb.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and for being a part of something truly special. Together, we can help Conor get back to doing what he loves.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Your Football Family ⚽️⛰️ ☀️
