Snow Day is a 20-minute short film that I have been developing since February. Shooting will begin at the end of July and I need your help to make it happen. The film is about a young Brooklyn couple trapped inside during a blizzard. Over the course of a long day spent together, they bump up against the limits of how well they know each other. Flirty, guarded, annoying, surprisingly tender. Who is this person I've been sleeping with? Is he more important than my career? My family? My roommate? What emotions bubble up when you're forced to take a day off?
The people involved in this project come from every walk of my artistic life and I'm giddy about bringing them together. The fantastic cast includes Madeline Wise, Gary Richardson and Jonathan Gordon.
This is a very important, personal project for me. I'm making a movie about things I care about: family, both given and chosen; ambition and compassion, often at odds with each other; and the spiritual toll living in New York City can take on an optimistic soul. I'm also developing a process that can be replicated. I've surrounded myself with talented collaborators in the hopes that together we can codify a way of working that could be repeated and built upon in the future.
Short films don't turn a profit. I look forward to continuing our collaboration beyond the scope of this project and I hope to someday make you a ton of money. In the meantime, I want you to know that I don't take your contribution to this project lightly. You are a collaborator as valued to me as the DP, the editor and the actors devoting time to this process. It quite literally could not happen without you. In exchange for your donation, I can promise you a finished product that you will be proud to have supported at an early stage.
Your contribution will allow me to afford the equipment and personnel necessary to make this film happen. We have a budget of about $2,000, aka One Shoestring. Nobody making this thing is doing it for the money, but it is important to me to compensate people for their time when possible. The budget also includes equipment, food for the cast and crew and post-production costs like festival submission fees. I am happy to share a detailed breakdown with you if you're curious.
