Snow Day 20: Twenty Years of Improv, Friendship, and Staying Up Way Too Late

Twenty years.

That’s a pretty long time to do anything.

It’s especially long to gather a bunch of improvisers in the middle of winter, lock them in a theater for 26 hours, and somehow convince them that staying awake, making things up, and occasionally questioning their life choices is a good idea.

But here we are.

Snow Day 20 is coming January 16–17, 2027 at Go Comedy Improv Theater in Ferndale, Michigan.

For two decades, the Detroit improv community has come together for Snow Day: a 26 hour improv marathon created by performers who wanted to do what they love while helping people and organizations that mean something to our community.

What started in 2006 as a slightly ridiculous idea has become a tradition.

And honestly, we couldn't be more grateful.

Twenty Years. Twenty Thousand Dollars.

For Snow Day 20, we're setting our biggest fundraising goal yet:

$20,000 for 20 years of Snow Day.

!00% of the money will go directly to support three organizations that have become an important part of the Snow Day family:

Gilda's Club of Detroit

Supporting people and families whose lives have been affected by cancer, carrying forward the spirit of Gilda Radner and the community she inspired.

The Tim Hayden Memorial College Fund

Created in memory of our friend Tim Hayden, this fund helps students pursue higher education and continue building the future of the performing arts.

The Diana George Jacokes Endowment Fund

Honoring the memory and legacy of Diana George Jacokes by supporting students and keeping her generosity and impact alive for future generations.

Three different causes.

Three incredible legacies.

One very snowy weekend.

So What Exactly Is Snow Day?

Imagine a theater filled with improvisers from Detroit and beyond.

Now imagine them performing for 26 straight hours.

There are teams.

There are jams.

There are workshops.

There are sketches.

There are musical performances.

There are people performing at hours when reasonable people are normally asleep.

There are audiences who somehow decide that 3:00 AM is an excellent time to go watch improv.

And there is always at least one person who says, "I've got an idea."

That person is usually right.

Snow Day is part theater festival, part sleep deprivation experiment, part family reunion and part beautiful community chaos.

Most importantly, it's a way for a bunch of people who love performing to use that love to help others.
