Snow Bear's Cataract Surgery Fund

Donation protected

When I had surgery for retinal detachment 3 years ago, the ophthalmologist told me that surgery would speed up the development of the small cataract in the same eye. I checked in on the cost of cataract surgery - $10,000, way beyond my means.
Three weeks ago, my eye exam revealed the cataract is crystallizing, the last stage before blindness. My vision loss has made my craft work, reading, teaching and even walking on trails challenging because of impaired depth perception.
The optometrist also told me of a new service for the uninsured known as "surgery for cash" where you pay the entire bill up front for a greatly reduced rate has referred me to a surgeon in Greenville, North Carolina that will operate on that basis for $2500, which includes everything: preliminary and two post-op examinations, anesthetic, medications.
I am hoping to schedule the surgery for January or February, given the urgency of the situation. I will need to buy a plane ticket, rent a room and buy meals for a 2 week stay in Greenville, NC.
I feel the deepest gratitude every day to my extended community, my tribe who has given me so much care and support in this stage of my life. I am truly blessed to have your help navigating my elder years.
