Sniff Trail Project for Save A Dog
Tax deductible
My name is Ryan Barrett, and I am a scout in Troop 61. My Eagle project is creating a trail to be located in the unused forested area on Save A Dog's property. The trail would be used to give the dogs at the shelter added enrichment by being able to sniff the smells of the forest while still being in a safe, fenced-in area. The project consists of clearing parts of the wooded area to make a circular trail loop, as well as clearing a large rectangular perimeter about 80x100 ft. to put in a wire mesh fence.
The dogs at the shelter get almost all of their enrichment from the outside yards, which do a great job, but unfortunately do not include a lot of variety of things to smell and explore. It is currently fairly difficult to walk the dogs outside of the yards, as the shelter is located very close to a major road, and transporting the animals to a safer location to have a walk in a new, interesting location takes a lot of time and effort. By having a trail through a forested area on the property, it would be significantly easier to give the dogs the enriching walks and would improve their quality of life, as well as saving time for the people who work or volunteer at Save A Dog.
The funds will be used to purchase materials for the fence and supplies to make sure the volunteers working on the project are safe. Any excess or unused funds will go directly to Save A Dog.
