Hi everyone, I wasn't planning on doing this.. but Bill's and necessities do pile up while unable to work, I am making this GoFundMe for my father Tony Holdefer, husband of Missy Holdefer of 32 years, father of 3, grandfather of 7, expecting another, a disabled vet, a recent full-time employee of USIC, friend, overall strongest, hardworking man.
All Within the past four years my dad has suffered many battles. It started in 2014,when he had went to the VA and they found a mass inside his left kidney which was renal carcinoma resulting in his left kidney having to be completely removed. Now only with one kidney, and returning to work two weeks after the surgery was done. The next 6 months go by, and my father had to go in for another surgery for a mass on his lung to be removed. He returned to work shortly after that procedure as well. He worked 40+ hours a week, always exceeding overtime and then some, on call, never had a sick day, and still after two surgeries he was raising his family, providing making sure his whole family had food, clothes, and necessities.
April 24, 2020 I had come home to my mom panicking frantically saying my father had a stroke while working, nobody knew where he was, he wasn't answering, I went to look for him, and we got him to the hospital. The whole time he had no vision, went numb and was admitted in the hospital. While at Christus Spohn Shoreline, after numerous tests were done, imptatiently waiting for them to find answers we were told that he was diabetic, that his caradid artery on his left side is 100% blocked. The physician did mention to us that 95% of the patients die on the table during this procedure due to a massive stroke. After seeming like this was it, we were told by the doctor that he has several blockages around his heart, and that he also has brain hemorrhage. Being released from the hospital on April 27, with numerous phone calls and doctor appointments to be made, he made it home of course with the new adjusted diet, and restrictions. The physician told my dad he may never to return to work.
It is now May 7th, 2020 and I have witnessed my dad still have no vision in his left eye, he has numbness on his right side causing him to drop things he is trying to hold, and it is hard for him to breathe. He is slowly moving around, with pain in his eyes due to the medication they prescribed him, it makes all of his joints hurt. He has more testing tomorrow at the VA in Corpus Christi.
It is a change for him to just be at home. Everyone who knows my dad, knows he is a hard working family provider always working, helping out when he can. We as a family are coming together now, financially, mentally, emotionally, and physically, but sometimes more help is needed because each of us have child(ren) and households of our own as well. Please if you can donate anything helps, it is going straight to my father's Bill's, food and necessities as he is not able to return to work and has no income right now. Today he had just gotten the information on how to go about applying for disability and unemployment, and he is waiting on an approval or denial. Times are hard, and this really hit home for our family. I would also like to ask if you could please keep him in your prayers, we could use them! I will update this as we get more answers on his health!!! Thank you!! God Bless!!! ❤
