Toad rode out the Hurricane, but after the storm, his breathing got worse and worse. Thank you someone up above for the timing of Isaac Dodd M.D.'s trip to visit his mom, Tom's wife- Marcia. Isaac checked dad out and said if he didn't get to hospital soon he could asphyxiate. If Isaac hadn't of showed up, this might be an entirely different situation. They went in Wednesday night with Toad's breathing complications and Oxygen levels down to 86%. They held him overnight while they ran tests, gave him oxygen and an IV. He was feeling better the next day and has been in good spirits.
We need to get his bill paid and on a plane back to U.S., where we can get him admitted at the V.A. Toad was in the Air Force and he can get some good and free treatment here in the states. He might get out on Sunday 7-13, or maybe a few more days. The problem is, Toad, as an expat lives on social security fixed income. He grows most of the food he needs to eat and his home is paid off, but a few months of Social security payments aren't gonna be enough for his hospital bill in Jamaica. Each night he stays is more he has to come up with. His immediate family--my brother, and I are both working our butts off to raise a family and pull a business out of post covid drought, respectively. So funds are tight for Toad.
The important thing is that we lower his stress, so he can heal and recover. Stressing about money is not something we want for Toad. Once cleared from the hospital, I will head down there so I can accompany him to the airport and to the plane. He will need Oxygen and a wheelchair, so need to address all of that so that he can get home safely.
Once home, Toad will be heading to the V.A. to get thorough workups done, a primary physician and whatever treatment he needs. We will all be helping him to get him on his feet for as long as possible so that Toad can decide his next steps.
So that is our ask. Toad's ask and mine and Erics. We need to smuggle Toad out of Jamaica like a pirate on the run.
If you know Toad and he has ever made you laugh or did something thoughtful for you. Please help with whatever you can. Even just words of encouragement are good too. I understand financial stress, so don't feel obligated. Reach out to Toad on Facebook and tell him your thinking of him. He has wifi at the hospital.
