On January 5th, Katrina Franklin, the niece of Soney, sustained severe burns on 80% of her body in a life-threatening fire. Thankfully, her son was able to escape the fire by jumping out of a window, though he sustained a broken foot in the process. Both were immediately rushed to Dallas Parkland hospital for emergency treatment and are currently recovering. Soney's, who has been a valued member of the FIJI community at SMU for over 25 years, is considered family. We are requesting donations to assist with the medical expenses and alleviate the financial burden on Soney's and his family. As members of the SMU community, it is our duty to support one of our brothers and true friends by giving back in any way we can. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference.
