"Smooth, Smooth Jazz" A 2 act play
Hello everyone,
We are a group of theater students at Western Washington University in the midst of putting on the first ever production of the play, "Smooth, Smooth Jazz". It is a dark comedy in 2 acts, written by Teague Parker and Directed by Alyssa Balogh. The cast, crew, director, and playwright are all current students. This play was awarded the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 7 award for best play.
This production will run from May 19-21st at the Old Main Theater at Western Washington University.
The cast includes:
Aaron ussery as Carmichael
Teague Parker as Diggery
Marlena McHenry as Mariah
A brief synopsis of the story:
"This dark comedy brings us Carmichael, who’s discovered that his wife of 22 years has just had sexual relations with another man. Pushed to his limits, he hires Diggery, a wannabe thug, to kill him in front of his supposedly cheating wife, Mariah. However, Diggery shows up an hour early to this low-key execution, causing Carmichael to converse with his killer until his wife returns home from work. The grey areas of relationships, stereotypes, and traditional thinking are explored in this play looking at the wonders of love, and the evil it forces us to hide in ourselves."
We're here to ask for your help. As of right now, we have no funds for the production. The team that has been put together is of the highest caliber on all fronts: talent, passion, and dedication. Those working on this project are apart of it because they believe in the text, each other, and the message it can send. Creatively, there are no limits to what can be achieved. Our goal is to raise $1000 to eliminate the hindrance of finances, allowing this production to reach its full potential. With your donations, we can create a more authentic theatrical experience.
Through the help of donations, we accomplish a number of things.
-The ability to purchase materials needed to construct a fully realized set.
-Pay for props
-Pay for set pieces and other decorations
-Provide funds for publicity
-Help acquire additional costumes
-The printing of scripts
These are a few things that will be covered through your help, along with any unforseen obstacles that could arise along the way.
It's one thing to put on a show that people enjoy, it's another to make a production that people experience: and that is our dream. With your help we can make that happen. Even the smallest amount makes a difference.
The cast and crew of "Smooth, Smooth Jazz" thank you for your time and consideration!
