Smoky’s Bar and Grill Fire
Approved by Andrea Block and Shiloh Lorius, owners of Smoky's Bar & Grill
Perkins County, SD and the surrounding area shock and grieving over the loss of Smoky's Bar & Grill to a fire yesterday. With 118 years of history, moved from the town of Seim to Meadow, SD, Smoky’s was more than just a bar with great food, it was a community center, a place for people to gather and strengthen their ties with each other.
Andrea Block and Shiloh Lorius have done so much for the community but have suffered a tragic loss and it would cost so much to replace the building, let alone the history that can never be recovered. But Andrea and Shiloh have also lost their sole income.
It’s been less than 24 hours since Smoky’s collapsed so it’s unclear what they will need in the weeks and months again. My hope is that instead of rushing them as they get their bearings, we as friends and patrons of their amazing business can support them through the long process of recovery. Initially the money will likely go toward bills and essentials they need, with future proceeds going toward the rebuilding process if they wish. This description may be updated when we know more what Andrea and Shiloh need.
In 2009 a data visualization journalist announced that Smoky’s was the nearest restaurant to, at that time, the farthest place in the Continental United States from a McDonald’s. Two and a half hours in any direction to a McDonald’s, Smoky’s is the lynchpin of the community, providing great food, parties, dancing, and so much more. Please help as the community rebuilds.
