Our cat Smokey needs your help. Starting at the end of January, Smokey began lying down to eat a lot and developed a limp that increased in severity as the weeks passed. After several emergency vet/hospital visits, x-rays, and exams a specialist finally noticed a fracture in both femur bones after we pushed for a closer look. According to our doctor and the specialist, the fracture likely occurred due to a developmental issue in his bones where the slightest impact such as a leap from our backyard fence or countertop caused the injury. The fractures have also made it difficult and painful for Smokey to defecate so he has
received several enemas and had been placed on laxatives and pain medication.
We have been told surgery is the only option to give Smokey the ability to walk somewhat normally and play pain-free. If not, Smokey will experience arthritic pain for the rest of his life and rely on medication which has a risk of shortening his life with long term usage.
Smokey is a gentle, loving cat. He is quiet, patient, and doesn’t ask for much other than chin scratches, bird watching, little snacks and having his catnip filled banana when he sleeps. He’s too young to face to rest of his life in pain.
Unfortunately, we cannot afford his surgery, which costs $4,200. It’s an uncomfortable decision to ask for help, but hope those who know us realize how much we care. The specialist who will perform the surgery is Dr. Borostyankoi of the Bakersfield Regional Veterinary Surgical Specialty (BRVSS). My partner and I created this donation page in the hopes that Smokey can get the surgery he needs and live the happy life he deserves.
Thank you for your support.
