SMM Veterans for SMM Local Staff

Many hundreds of us internationals came from across the world to be part of the SMM family in Ukraine. However, the backbone of the mission was the unstinting and generous support received from local staff.
- Language Assistants who helped us navigate tricky negotiations whilst on patrol and elsewhere, and made us laugh on the way.
- Local Drivers who got us there and back, although it sometimes seemed like they were in training for the Paris to Dakar Rally.
- Financial Assistants who ensured there was money in the kitty for petrol and other necessities like milk in the fridge for that all important 1st coffee of the morning.
- Human Resources navigating the intricacies of RATS so we could go home every once in a while to our nearest and dearest.
- Cleaners who worked tirelessly to ensure offices were free of Covid, and the mud trailed in by monitors.
As well as Admin, IT, Press Office, Security Personnel at work and living locations, Transport Support and everyone else who made the Mission work.
And continue to do so as the SMM to Ukraine closes down.
Funds raised will go to help our colleagues and their families, with food, clothing, medicines, transport to new locations, and everything in between that they need to keep body and soul together in these tragic times.
Local staff have always been there to help us; now is the time for us to give something back, to say thank you, we’re thinking of you.
