Support Steve Smith in His Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer
Hi, my name is Lindsay Clow. As most of you know, my amazing cousin, Steve Smith, was diagnosed with Stage 2 pancreatic cancer in September of 2023. Steve faced this news with the most determined and positive attitude you could imagine. The odds were not in his favor, with a five-year survival rate of just 13%, but he never accepted that statistic as part of his journey.
Round 1: Steve had endless rounds of blood work, countless CT and MRI scans, an endoscopic biopsy surgery, 8 rounds of heavy chemotherapy , 28 rounds of radiation. After conquering all of that he faced a very risky 9 hour Whipple surgery to remove his pancreas, gall bladder, spleen, part of his stomach and his bowel and all major cancer filled lymph nodes. Survival and success rates were low - yet Steve said “ I’ve got this. It’s GO time!”
His recovery was long, physically and mentally. He faced a massive lifestyle change, instantly needing to manage insulin levels with no pancreas, new medications and a strict diet just to survive. With his tenacious mindset and Hollie’s unwavering support, he did it! Steve beat the odds and lived cancer free for over a year - our hero, and truly a poster boy for pancreatic cancer.
Fast forward to this November . After experiencing back pain and going for his routine three month scan, Steve and Hollie had to hear the words no one wants to hear : "I'm sorry, there's a recurrence in your spine. We will need to make a new plan. "
Round 2 : Steve is now gearing up for more scans and tests. Another 16 week chemotherapy schedule beginning the week of Christmas. New odds to fight with fewer options unfortunately. Even with this devastating news, he said: " Buckle up....I will crush this again!"
Steve wants to share his cancer journey for awareness - to raise money for the cause and to educate others that may face this disease in the future. Throughout the past two years Steve and Hollie have only asked for our love and support.
Now, as they face a second battle this is when we call on our friends, family and our community to help.
Please consider donating to provide relief for travel expenses, mounting household bills, and the costs associated with easing the financial burden of additional treatment. We want to allow them to focus on what matters most: supporting Smitty through this fight so he can heal and win again.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
