Smith for Nepal Earthquake relief

We, the seven Nepali students of Smith College, are grateful for the solidarity that Smith College has shown us in the face of this great disaster that has struck our country Nepal. As the estimates for casualties and those affected rise, the need for support both moral and material escalates. We survived the biggest scare in a long time and now, it is time to stick together, look forward and work towards rebuilding Nepal. Rather than feeling helpless and sad from across the world, we are trying our best to show solidarity to our fellow citizens by doing whatever we can in our potential to help mitigate the situation.
Currently many independent groups of people, youth organizations, and local NGOs are already on the ground delivering immediate relief, and are shining rays of hope in the badly affected remote areas of the country. As much as these efforts are genuine and powerful, because they are local organizations, they do not have names that the international community is familiar with. Being from Nepal and getting first hand updates from the site, we know what a praiseworthy job they have been doing; therefore, we want to channel our Smith fund to help these organizations, with 100% guarantee and assurance that it will be put to right use.
Also, some of us are going back to Nepal in June to help in whatever ways possible to help in the rebuilding efforts. With first-hand knowledge of the situation and a deep understanding of the needs of our country we will be able to identify and connect with these local grass-root organizations that have been making a difference in Nepal. Two of these organizations have been listed below.
1) KarmaFlights.org, which is in conjunction with the Cloud Base Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization. They are using all funds immediately for the earthquake relief, and post frequent updates on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/karmaflights?fref=ts) of where their donations are going, what they are in need of, and where they are working.
2) Samaanta Foundation also a verified 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization, has a network of local organizations and are helping to provide relief to rural areas.
We urge everyone to join in our mission and contribute any amount you can. Please help rebuild Nepal; EVERY PENNY COUNTS!!! One dollar can mean approximately ten packets of noodles, two kilograms of rice, or five bottles of water. Your generosity is helping an entire nation get back on its feet.
