Smirk & Dagger's Tariff Relief Fund

It's Curt Covert, owner of Smirk & Dagger Games. As many are aware, our recent Kickstarter project, "Boom Patrol" was successfully funded at a time where no one could have imagined that our production costs would be significantly increased by the addition of tariffs.

The games were offered to backers at $35 for Standard editions (a discount of $5 from the MSRP) and $50 for Deluxe.

Currently at 30%, the tariff adds roughly $2 to the cost of producing the standard editions and $3 to the deluxe editions, as a tax placed on the goods when they arrive in port, payable to the US Treasury. On the surface, 2 or 3 dollars doesn't seem like much... but when multiplied by all our US backers, it mounts up quickly.

We made the decision not to mandatorily charge backers for this campaign. This GoFundMe page was created for those individuals who wanted to help us out with a contribution to our Tariff Relief Fund. Any amount is appreciated. The $2 or $3 will cover the tariff of 30% on your game (so please ignore the automatically generated $20 donation suggestion below. I can't seem to change it from asking for that amount). For those who are unable to do so, don't worry. And don't feel pressured to do so. For those who came here to lend a hand, our sincere thanks. And to everyone - we look forward to getting you your games very soon and hope you will enjoy them.

Meanwhile, I am headed to Washington DC next week, along with others from the game industry, to participate in a two-day series of meetings with legislators to let them know, first hand, how our industry is being impacted. All board game companies are facing a very difficult challenge. Even this 90-day window poses a significant threat. Across multiple industries, everyone is racing to get their goods into port and the resulting delays from congestion will likely push many or all of the goods past the 90 day window. No one knows what lies beyond that cutoff date. With our backed games and the rest of Smirk & Dagger's Fall line coming in, we will already be handed a $210,000 tax bill I never anticipated. If the 30% tariff suddenly jumps back to 53% or 145%, it could ruin everything I've built over the past 22 years. Fingers crossed that this does not come to pass.
