About the Learning Experience
S.M.A.R.T (Single Mothers of America Resource Team) STEM Literacy Across the Globe is an enhanced global stem project-based learning experience that enables students to apply 21st-Century skills to improve the Literacy and Wellness issues of their global community. Today, the project has a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) component that has expanded to support the "Wellness in Education" initiative by teaching students how to combat mental wellness challenges through writing.
What We Do
In the SMART Academic Enrichment Program, students are actively engaged in solving literacy problems in other countries. As a result, students are motivated to strengthen their reading, writing, math, and gifted abilities. In the past, youth and parents from SMART Inc. solved literacy problems in underprivileged countries by partnering with local educators to build school libraries with school-wide book drives. Furthermore, S.M.A.R.T STEM Literacy Across the Globe participants created books for students across the globe.
Meet The Founder
Ms. Toyin Fadina, better known as Ms. Tee in the community, is a retired teacher who continues to exercise her passion for teaching and STEM. As a result, she decided to launch S.M.A.R.T STEM Literacy Across the Globe in her local community and nationally. She created a STEM-Literacy SEL approach that has developed youth authors and taught students how to deal with emotions through self-discovery, writing, reading, art, and helping others through kindness.
Ms. Tee facilitates students' kind acts of service by teaching them to become Global STEM leaders. In addition, the students connect with students from other countries as pen pals. Ms. Tee's STEM Team partnered with teachers from participating countries to ensure this experience rewards the students. The project ties in well with any grade-level curriculum. The project's BIG IDEA Question is "Can the youth heal the world through literacy?"
