According to my friends, I have always been a fighter. Especially when there is a friend or a family member in need.
Being a single mother was difficult, but it was my responsibility and I now have two well-adjusted adult children. I couldn’t be prouder. And I did it while being a self-employed massage therapist with my own practice full of wonderful clients. I was blessed with a good work ethic, wonderful loyal clients, and a skill set that had me in demand...until Covid19.
The invisible enemy that took almost 20 years of hard work and sacrifice and turned it into a fading memory in only 2 months. My income was decimated. The only things that I had to fall back on were Uber/Lyft and a new skill set that I was developing for almost a year, Frontend Web Development.
With shelter-in-place orders in place, my ride-share income was the next thing to dry up and I have been working as an essential employee at a local hardware store since. I have not given up, but I have realized that I can no longer afford to live in California. That is where this GoFundMe comes in.
Until a vaccine can be developed or the CDC is able to provide guidelines for keeping myself and my clients safe while practicing massage, I cannot in good conscience re-open my practice. In light of this, my family and I have decided that it is best that I relocate to Georgia and to finish my last couple of months of Web Development training. It is difficult to ask for help, but I realize that help is what I need.
It will cost me about $5000 to move, set up in Georgia, and finish my Web Development training so that I can be job-ready. I already have a few connections for employment, but I have to prove my proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to be hired. In the meantime, I have already arranged to have my current job transferred to a location in Georgia.
I realize that times are difficult for everyone, but I need the support of my family and right now I am too far away to be safe, especially now with the current racial climate. Time is of the essence because I have to drive through the Southern states.
There are times when I would just put my nose to the grindstone and bulldog my way into a solution, but this isn’t one of those moments. I do need help and as much as it hurts, I am asking. If you have the means, please consider a donation so that I can return to my family.
