About Greenpot
Greenpot is a small vegan grocery shop in NYC, located in the Greenpoint/Williamsburg area, owned by two lovely Polish women — twin sisters. The shop offers fresh bread, sandwiches, coffee, baked goods, and a wide selection of products for everyone, but especially for vegans. It is 100% vegan.
They always work hard to make everyone feel welcome, whether you’re vegan or not. If they can make the world even a little bit better, it makes them truly happy. Anna and Magda believe deeply in harmony, nature, and love toward animals and all living beings. They have huge hearts and incredibly hard-working souls. I am honored to call them my friends in good times and bad — two truly humble and amazing women.
Why I Decided to Step In
My name is JJ, and I am Anna’s and Magda’s third “sewn” sister - sister by choice. They are very dear to my heart. They’re too humble to ask for help themselves, so I decided to step in and support them during this difficult time of owning a small business in such uncertain times. They are fully aware of my actions.
Over the past five years that Greenpot has existed, we’ve seen each other almost every day. We bonded over matcha, “gossip" (anecdotes, captivating stories), delicious sandwiches, and snacks. But that’s not all they offer. They always helped me find vegan substitutes, and even though I can’t call myself fully vegan, they never looked down on me.
I’ve learned their life story—20 years in the U.S., and all the struggles along the way, both before and after opening the store. I can’t believe they have to start over again. I truly believe they deserve the absolute best.
Why GoFundMe
These two little bumblebees saved for over 20 years to one day give their dream a chance—a vegan shop built on kindness and doing no harm. It makes me sad to see a small, friendly business struggle in Greenpoint, a place where small businesses used to thrive.
Unfortunately, Greenpot cannot survive today’s times. Rising rent in a popular area, the cost of running a business, bills, and especially taxes forced Anna and Magda to close.
On top of everything else, there are the costs of closing a business, unsold equipment, and product loss. Anyone who owns or has owned a business understands this better than I ever could.
Goal
The goal is to raise around $25,000 for Greenpot, but truly, any amount makes a difference. Every donation brings the girls a tear and a lighter heart at the end of the day.
The girls don’t plan to reopen in the near future—we’ll see what the future brings. For now, the money raised will help with closing costs and give them a chance for a fresh start and some peace of mind during this transition.
100% of the collected money will go directly to the girls' business — whether it’s $1 or $1 million.
There is another way to support Greenpot. Say hi, buy something, or—if you’re a business owner looking for machinery that’s almost brand new—please swing by! The shop will be operating until March 31st!
