Small Apples in the Big Easy

My name is Cornelia; I moved to New Orleans from NYC with my daughter and our dog back in January.  We found a small place for us and everything was great. My daughter managed to find a job with an architectural firm and we kind of settled down. Then the pandemic hit. My daughter soon lost her job. For a while we managed using our savings. Then she went on unemployment benefits and with the help of the extra benefits we were able to survive a few more months. She kept looking for a job but none were available. The debts kept piling up. We have not been able to pay for our storage pod which is still in NY. We can't afford to get medicine for our dog or to take her to get an annual check up. Meanwhile we've had to borrow quite a bit of money; I was supposed to apply for my social security benefits but I never managed to do it because of the change of address and problems with getting a New Orleans ID. The lack of money has affected everything. I'm almost 66 years old and I've had to go without basic things like vitamins or aspirin for most of the time. I myself worry about my own mother who lives alone in Romania, and who I am unable to contact or help financially in anyway. The most pressing thing right now is paying rent, otherwise we'll get evicted. Then it would be the pod where almost all of our belongings are. We might lose it by the end of the year if we don't pay the amount in full. For all this time we've had to pay monthly fees for storage which we haven't been able to do for the last few months. This isn't even mentioning the bills that are many months due right now. It's been very tough, especially on my daughter who feels responsible for taking care of us. We just received a notice to vacate if we don't pay our past due amount as soon as possible. The holidays are coming soon and we can't even afford a decent meal, nonetheless giving each other gifts. I feel extremely sad, especially because I'm unable to work in order to help my daughter a little. She recently started working part-time as a dishwasher to help make ends meet, but it barely covers the basic necessities. We need quite a bit of money for things to return to some sort of normal, but any amount would be greatly appreciated. We are hopeful that better times are ahead of us with your help. Thank you!
