Meryem'de Spinal Musküler Atrofi (SMA) Tip 1 hastalığı var.
Spinal musküler atrofi (SMA), omurilikteki motor sinir hücrelerini etkileyerek, yürüme, yemek yeme veya nefes alma yeteneğini ortadan kaldırarak insanları etkisiz hale getiren bir hastalıktır. Bebekler için bir numaralı genetik ölüm nedenidir.
Zolgensma adı verilen onaylanmış bir gen tedavisi vardır. ABD'de maliyeti (hastane masrafları ile birlikte) 2,4 milyon USD. Biz toplayabileceğimize inanıyoruz.
Ancak bu tedavi ile Meryem yürüyebilir. Şimdi 2,5 yaşında ve zamana karşı yarışıyor.

Meryem has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 disease.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a disease that disable people by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat, or breathe. It is the number one genetic cause of death for infants.
There is an approved gene therapy, which is called Zolgensma. It costs (together with hospital expenses) 2,4 million USD in USA.
Only with this treatment, Meryem can walk. She is now 2,5 years old and he is racing against time.
