SLUH 1984 Class Golf Cart Donation To SLUH (501c3)

Donation protected
To my SLUH 1984 classmates, I would like to appeal to your sense of brotherhood, unity, Men for Others, and legacy through a campaign titled SLUH 1984 Golf Cart Donation to SLUH (501c3).

For those who have not visited the SLUH campus recently or during a class reunion, SLUH offers golf cart transportation from the Science Center parking lot to SLUH during special events like Reunions, Open House, Mother's Club events, SLUHtique, and other events.

The present carts are badly in need of repair or replacement.  Their condition includes balding tires, shocks that are failing, and even difficulty switching from "Forward" to "Reverse".    The cart in the poorest condition is the 6-passenger "limo" golf cart.

Understandably, SLUH is focused on big projects to propel SLUH into the next 200 years with improvements to our nearly 100 year old main school building and other campaigns.  The idea of the SLUH 1984 Golf Cart Donation is motivated by a desire of providing an improvement in an area that is not priority by SLUH.  I want to be clear.  This campaign is not requested from SLUH, but it is welcomed.  Please do not make a donation to the Class of 1984 Golf Cart Donation if you are committed to other SLUH preferred endeavors.  Their projects are priority.  Only donate to the Class of 1984 Golf Cart Donation if you are motivated by class unity.

We, as Class of 1984, will provide this donation to SLUH under our own free will to participate and offer a solution in an area that often is the first impression for SLUH visitors and returning alumni.

I would like to recommend replacement of the current 6-passenger "limo" golf cart with a new golf cart as a donation from SLUH Class of 1984.  I have included a picture of one option.  We have two different golf cart manufacturer options.  Charlie Ernst and I have been in discussions with Joe Rankin '83 who manages the maintenance team and equipment.  Joe is very excited about the prospect to replace the 6-passenger cart.

The goal of $14,000 is based upon the estimated price of the unit, freight, fees, and what GoFundMe charges for being the crowdfunding tool to temporarily receive the donations.   Charlie Ernst and Don Beckerle have both volunteered to be my arbiters of virtue relative to the donations being appropriately applied for the purpose of the SLUH 1984 Golf Cart Donation to SLUH (501c3) fundraising campaign.

Ideally, I would like to end the campaign by January 7th, 2020.  The cart will take 4 to 6 weeks for delivery.  I plan to add elements to the cart to highlight 1984's contribution.  Examples include a Jr. Bill as the hood ornament, "Compliments of 1984", 1984 on the side panels of the cart to name a few.  Donors can print out a receipt for their donation and submit them to their tax advisor for consideration.  After further discussions with SLUH, SLUH cannot issue letters of acknowledgement unless the donation goes directly through them.

I thought I'd include a photo of one version that will be decided on by Joe Rankin of SLUH Maintenance.
