San Diego has the third highest population of homeless in the country. You only have to drive around various parts of downtown to realize just how bad it is. I've been involved in outreach programs that hand out food and clothing, which is great. But so many people ask for sleeping bags.
So this is the third year I've done this effort. I import a large number of sleeping bags to keep costs down, and then drive around at night and hand them out directly to people who clearly need them. It's staggering just how many people are sleeping on bare concrete in just their clothes. These people are beyond grateful for the handout, and often begin crawling in to them immediately.
I've already got the shipment for this year, and am trying to recoup some of the costs, so I can do it all over again. After all the various import fees, it comes out to $13 a sleeping bag. The same ones sell on Amazon for twice that. I appreciate any contributions, and more importantly, so will the recipients.
